Create your face reference

Create a reusable face reference sheet from one clear portrait. See the same person from the front, three-quarter angle and profile, then use the sheet as a face-focused identity reference when exploring other AI photo tools. The profile is inferred when no side-view evidence is supplied.

Sema will tell you what she needs, look at what you send, and show you the price before anything is made.

One 16:9 landscape face reference sheet of the person in [your photo]: exactly three equal vertical panels, left to right: straight front, natural 35 to 45 degree three-quarter, true 90 degree side profile. One head across three rotations, not three people. The photo governs the visible facial identity. Lock the skull, forehead, eyes, nose, lips, jaw, chin, ears and neck into one proportional head: never rescale parts, enlarge eyes, shrink the nose or sharpen the jaw. Do not beautify, idealize, symmetrize, age, de-age or invent scars, freckles, jewelry or accessories. Preserve her face shape, dark brows, eye color, hairline, voluminous dark-brown curls worn loose to the shoulders, skin tone, depicted age, natural asymmetries, and the small dark mole on one cheekbone, which stays on that same physical cheek in every rotation, never mirrored or duplicated. Keep her slim rectangular tortoiseshell glasses exactly as shown, the same shape and thinness in every panel: do not thicken, darken, replace or remove them. Keep her hair exactly as shown: do not straighten, shorten, braid or restyle it. She wears no jewelry; add none. With only a front photo, infer a plausible profile rather than a verified one. Show head and shoulders or upper chest in each panel, with the whole head and hairstyle inside every frame at the same crop scale and camera distance, the head large with breathing room, a relaxed upright posture and a level head. The front looks at the camera; the three-quarter keeps both eyes visible where possible and is not a near-profile. Same relaxed neutral closed-mouth expression throughout, no smile, frown or exaggerated brows. Plain matte medium-gray crew-neck shirt as temporary clothing, no branding. Uniform light neutral-gray background and soft broad even light, no dramatic shadows, rim or colored light, or cinematic effects. Eye-level natural portrait perspective, the same lens in every panel, no wide-angle distortion, restrained natural detail. Narrow clean gutters; the three panels fill the sheet with no labels or captions.

When to use this tool

Use this when you want to explore AI portraits, hair or makeup while keeping one person recognizable across different tools. This is a face-focused reference, not a full-body identity sheet: it helps the other listed tools start from the same facial identity, while each tool creates its own result.

What you get

One wide 16:9 sheet with three head-and-shoulders views of the same person: front, three-quarter and profile, with a neutral expression, gray crew-neck shirt and plain studio background. The face reference is a reusable input, not a finished portrait.

How it works

  1. Upload a clear portrait with one person’s full face and hair visible.
  2. Sema checks that the face is clear enough, then creates three views on one sheet.
  3. Review the inferred profile before using the sheet in another tool.

Tips for the best photo

  • Use an evenly lit portrait with the whole face and hair silhouette visible.
  • A side-view photo gives better evidence for the profile; without one, that view is inferred.

Questions

What does a face reference cost?

One 16:9 image with one required portrait reference costs 4 credits at the standard quality tier. The final quote is shown before generation.

Can I download the result?

Yes. Completed generation results can be downloaded from your generation history.

Can I revise the result?

You can ask Sema to revise a result. The existing result is used as a reference, and the revision is quoted before it runs.

How are my uploaded photos handled?

Images uploaded for an edit are deleted after that job completes, whether it succeeds or fails. Images attached to a Sema conversation are kept while that conversation exists and are released when detached or when the conversation is deleted. See the privacy page for details.

Does this work with any portrait?

The input check requires one person’s whole face and hair silhouette to be visible and large enough to read. If several people appear, identify the person. Obscured or tiny faces are declined. The phone-photo demonstrations use synthetic fictional adults. Likeness is close, not guaranteed identical; facial proportions, apparent age and freckle density can drift. Review all three views before reuse.

What can I use the face reference for?

A face reference feeds body-reference directly for facial identity, but body proportions remain provisional without full-body evidence. It also feeds haircut-lookbook for visible hair and head shape, makeup-lookbook for facial features, hair-color-comparison for visible hair, and bridal-direction-board for face and hair. Each tool checks that the features it needs are clear and asks for its own preferences. Outfit-try-on needs a body reference or clear full- or half-body photo plus a garment photo; themed-portrait needs a body reference or clear full- or half-body photo showing the person's build. Make a body reference first rather than sending either tool a face-only sheet. Identity-sheet starts from a clear portrait photo, with additional body, side and back photos recommended; it is not wired to generate its input with face-reference.

One 16:9 landscape face reference sheet of the person in [your photo]: exactly three equal vertical panels, left to right: straight front, natural 35 to 45 degree three-quarter, true 90 degree side profile. One head across three rotations, not three people. The photo is the primary and authoritative source for facial identity and head structure. Treat the head as one proportionally locked structure and do not independently rescale the skull, face, forehead, eyes, nose, lips, jaw, ears or neck to make the subject look more idealized or more recognizable. Preserve head shape, facial structure, forehead height, brow, eye shape and color, nose, lips, jaw and chin, ears, hairline, hairstyle, hair length and color, facial hair, neck length, characteristic asymmetries and distinguishing features. Do not beautify, idealize, reshape, age, de-age or redesign the subject, do not symmetrize the face, and do not introduce scars, freckles, makeup, jewelry or accessories the photo does not support. Match the front and side evidence as closely as possible; the three-quarter view is a geometrically consistent rotation of the same head. Natural photographic rendering with restrained detail: do not exaggerate pores, eyelashes, eye reflections, individual hairs or skin texture. Show the subject from upper chest or shoulders up, the entire head and complete hairstyle inside every panel, at the same crop scale, the head filling most of the panel height with comfortable space around the hair. Relaxed upright posture, level head, the same relaxed neutral closed-mouth expression in all three views, no smile, frown or surprise. Plain matte medium-gray crew-neck shirt as temporary clothing, with no branding, jewelry or patterns. One uniform light neutral-gray studio background with soft, broad, even light, no dramatic shadows, rim or colored light, or cinematic grading.
